Writing In Style is a business started in 2010. My aim is to provide customers with unique writing instruments. Everything I do is driven by the requirements of the customer. The most important thing to me is that when you purchase one of my pens you walk away happy.
My name is Dave Murphy. All pens/pencils are handmade and hand finished by me. I have been working with wood for about 11 years now and have produced everything from pens and pencils through to beds and kitchen cabinets.
Writing In Style is a member of the UK Association of Penturners and also the International Association of Penturners.
What We Do
All of our pens or pencils are made from a high quality components. The main body of the pen/pencil is made from either wood or a man made product (acrylic, acrylester or some other specialist material). The main body is turned on a lathe down to the appropriate size for the pen/pencil. It is then sanded and polished to a wonderful shine (I do not use a CA glue finish on wood as I find that it makes the pen feel as though it is made out of plastic). The pen/pencil is then assembled and any mechanisms fully checked.
Fountain Pens in our executive range are delivered with a Piston Style Ink Pump where available whereas others will be provided with a cartridge. The cartridge will never be pushed in so as not to clog up the pen and to remove the chances of leaks during transit.
Finally the pen will go through a quality check to ensure that there are no issues with it. Although these checks will flag up most issues allowing them to be rectified before delivery there may be occasions where a problem may show up after delivery. Every pen has a 6 month warranty so just let us know what the problem is and we’ll get it fixed for you.

Baking cakes has been a passion for me for as long as I can remember. I specialise in delicious, homemade cakes, biscuits and meringues, selling them in the Cambridge area at several farmers’ markets; Impington & Linton in particular.
My scrumptious cakes are freshly made in my kitchen, using the best ingredients; including free-range eggs, unsalted butter and unwaxed lemons. I use no artificial flavourings or preservatives.
Seasonal, and locally sourced, fresh ingredients are used whenever possible. Homegrown beetroot, or apples from nearby orchards, make for wholesome and tasty cakes.
So go on, treat yourself to a slice of yummy cake with that cup of tea or enjoy a plate of my chewy meringues and add thick cream and strawberries for a simple but stunning dessert.
At The Pie Kitchen we take pride in the fact that all our meat is locally sourced and all the ingredients we use are of the finest quality. Our shortcrust and vegetarian pastries are all freshly handmade. All of our products are preservative free and suitable for freezing.
We have a range of delicious recipes from Steak and Ale pie to Chicken and Tarragon. We marry fresh herbs, succulent meat and delicious handmade pastry to bring you a little taste of pie heaven that you’ll be sure not to forget. For a list of our most popular recipes, see below:

Top Quality Pork, Beef, Lamb and Chicken Direct From The Farm To Your Door
In 1942, James’ and Richard’s grandfather, Alec Menhinick moved to Lindsell when the RAF needed his farm in Hunsdon, Hertfordshire for the war effort. Alec farmed 250 arable acres and a sizeable sheep herd.
In the late 1950’s James’ and Richard’s father Clive Menhinick took over the family farm and introduced a barley beef herd of cattle. In the late 1960’s Clive then started a small pig breeding unit. In the late 1970’s both James and Richard came home from college and decided to expand the pig herd to 200 breeding sows, selling pedigree stock to other commercial pig farms. The arable farm has partnered all of the above livestock enterprises, with the crops changing to suit the feed requirements of the livestock.
Richard and James wanted to sell quality home-grown produce to local people. So In early 2003 a state of the art cutting plant was built at the farm to process James and Richards own pigs.
The pigs are housed in large deep home-grown straw yards with plenty of natural light, air and space to exercise. Wheat and barley also grown at Priors Hall is harvested and made into pig feed in our own feed mill.
The pigs only ever leave the farm once , that is when they to go to a local abattoir (only 7 miles)so trauma and stress from transport is minimal and the carcasses are returned here to the farm the next day so all our meat is extremely fresh. We believe we are unique in being able to go from grain to plate on the farm. The high quality of our pork is due to the highest animal welfare standards adopted at Priors Hall, the fully traceable feed supply and of course the traditional recipes and methods we use on site for curing, smoking and preparing our hand-made products.
Customers tell us our pork tastes like real pork used to!! Customers soon asked us about other meat products, therefore we spoke to other local farmers who rear their animals in a similar way to ours .We now supply high quality beef, lamb and chicken from other farms in Essex, Suffolk in line with our policies on quality, food miles, locally sourced produce and high welfare standards. All of which are available in the farm shop , or to order for delivery . We supply numerous, schools, pubs, farm shops, shops and restaurants as well as manyfarmers markets.
