Traditionaly produced quality beef from Cratfield
Cratfield Beef is produced from traditional breeds of cattle which are raised in the natural way on the family farm in north Suffolk. The cattle spend the summer months grazing around Cratfield village and during the winter months they are housed inside in large straw bedded yards. They are fed silage which is produced from locally grown grass.
The cattle go direct to a local abattoir and are matured at the butchers in the traditional way giving them that extra special flavour. The beef is cut and packed to our requirements.
A large selection of beef is readily available which includes joints, fillet, sirloin, rump, braising and stewing steak, skirt, shin, mince and burgers.

Top Quality Pork, Beef, Lamb and Chicken Direct From The Farm To Your Door
In 1942, James’ and Richard’s grandfather, Alec Menhinick moved to Lindsell when the RAF needed his farm in Hunsdon, Hertfordshire for the war effort. Alec farmed 250 arable acres and a sizeable sheep herd.
In the late 1950’s James’ and Richard’s father Clive Menhinick took over the family farm and introduced a barley beef herd of cattle. In the late 1960’s Clive then started a small pig breeding unit. In the late 1970’s both James and Richard came home from college and decided to expand the pig herd to 200 breeding sows, selling pedigree stock to other commercial pig farms. The arable farm has partnered all of the above livestock enterprises, with the crops changing to suit the feed requirements of the livestock.
Richard and James wanted to sell quality home-grown produce to local people. So In early 2003 a state of the art cutting plant was built at the farm to process James and Richards own pigs.
The pigs are housed in large deep home-grown straw yards with plenty of natural light, air and space to exercise. Wheat and barley also grown at Priors Hall is harvested and made into pig feed in our own feed mill.
The pigs only ever leave the farm once , that is when they to go to a local abattoir (only 7 miles)so trauma and stress from transport is minimal and the carcasses are returned here to the farm the next day so all our meat is extremely fresh. We believe we are unique in being able to go from grain to plate on the farm. The high quality of our pork is due to the highest animal welfare standards adopted at Priors Hall, the fully traceable feed supply and of course the traditional recipes and methods we use on site for curing, smoking and preparing our hand-made products.
Customers tell us our pork tastes like real pork used to!! Farmed by vet Angelika von Heimendahl, husband and wife Chris, and Jen Myers, the Camcattle herd has flourished from five to one hundred glossy, chestnut-coloured Red Poll cattle – one of the oldest breeds in East Anglia.
Unlike supermarket beef, the Camcattle herd are matured slowly and the beef is hung for a minimum of three weeks to bring out the best possible flavour without the aid of antibiotics or growth promoters. This approach results in a dark, well-marbled, flavoursome beef that is a popular choice for butchers and diners alike.
Our customer base has steadily grown and we are always heartened by our customers who return with appreciative comments. For us, this is what it is all about. It makes the early mornings in all weathers worthwhile!
